With a record-high number of construction jobs available and hiring managers that are happy to hire just about anyone who is able-bodied, you may be wondering: why bother with an apprenticeship?

BUT, if you’re excited about a career and want to get started today learning and honing a true craft, there’s no better path forward than through an apprenticeship program.

Why go through an apprenticeship program?

Apprenticeships help people to get the skills and experience necessary not just to do but to succeed in their chosen craft. How? Apprenticeships provide:

    • World-class training and invaluable experience. Through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction, apprentices get to learn their trades from master tradespeople and experts in their field. The training and experience provided by an apprentice program would take more than triple the amount of time to get by simply working in the field.
    • Certifications that you can take anywhere. Once you go through the apprentice program, the skills, training, and certifications are YOURS, establishing you as a professional in your field.
    • Income, now! Apprenticeships are “earn while you learn” programs. During your apprenticeship, you’ll get paid to do work outside the classroom, but with the added bonus of getting work that is directly related to your craft.
    • Better opportunities in the future. Experience and expertise pay and pay well. Apprenticeship prepares you not only with an education in your chosen trade but also with hands-on training. With this strong foundation, you’ll become a highly-skilled, highly experienced tradesperson.with countless opportunities available to you.
    • Higher pay over time. Those who complete an apprenticeship go on to earn an average annual salary of $77,000 and, over the course of their careers, will make an average of $300,000 more than those who don’t.

As you can see, there’s a good reason why the number of apprentices has increased 64% over the last 10 years!

If you’re interested in a long and lasting career in the trades, and not just a job for the next year or maybe two, an apprenticeship is a must. Sure, you can get hired with little to no experience in some trade fields right now, but without completing a registered apprenticeship you are doing your future self a huge disservice. It’s about the long game, not the short game.
